Kegel Exercises
Twice a day, make a specific effort to exercise the muscles
which will help to maintain bladder control. The key procedure, tightening the
muscles, by "squeezing the rectum," is accomplished with practice,
noting that it does not involve "holding your breath."
Take a watch with a second hand or digital counter, and a lined pad and a pencil to the bathroom, and stand over the open toilet bowl. Empty the bladder and then tighten the muscle to cut off further leakage of urine, hold that for 10 seconds, and then relax.
For the next 10 seconds, just let the urine drip out. Then tighten the muscle for the next 10, repeating the procedure for a total of 15 times. Then simply relax for 30 seconds.
Now, start an alternating 1 second squeeze, followed by a 1 second relax, a 1 second squeeze, a 1 second relax, etc., for a total of 10 times.
Now, relax for 10 seconds, and repeat the procedure a second and third time. That's all there is to it. The pencil and pad are used to mark lines that keep track of the specified number of procedures.
